Daylight back again

Daylight has always been a key factor in human life. Since the advent of the electric light more than one hundred years ago, daylight has been put to the side – with serious health consequences.

It’s now time to bring daylight back into the life of city’s dwellers. Architects are begining to design again with daylight in mind – not only as a source of light, but mainly as a life supporting element. Along with the provision of water and fresh air (although fresh air provision has also been left aside for a while), daylight is an important element in the design of buildings.

But what about the urban landscape? If cities are packed with tall buildings, who gets the right to receive daylight or direct sunlight at all? Also cities need some re-thinking when it comes to the question of delivering daylight to buildings.

Some food for thought… hopefully soon enough architects and urban designers will use the help of daylight designers to develop healthy cities for its citizens.
