International Day of Light – May 16th

After 2015 being declared the International Year of Light (IYL), the UNESCO has endorsed a resolution creating an annual day to celebrate light and light-based technologies and how they influence the lives of all of us and which are central to the future development of society on this planet.

Why the 16th of May? That is the anniversary of the first successful operation of a laser in 1960 (58 years ago). By the way, we have made a post about a red laser installation by Margareta Hesse which took place in Berlin Spandau in 2017 and celebrates laser too.
