Have you ever been to a place where the light/daylight seems to have a magical effect? And was that place very close to water (a river, a lake or the sea)? Well, that is apparently what water tend to do to the atmosphere light, or daylight. It breaks, scatters and reflects the daylight in the air and transforms the atmosphere of the place into something special.
As some people following me on Instagram might have noticed, I spent some days at the Baltic Sea. It was a wonderful time and always impressive how daylight and the sea interact creating beautiful colours and scenarios during the day from sunrise to sunset. Also depending on the weather – sunny, cloudy, foggy – the sea and the sky have a different relationship.
It’s no wonder that many great artists live or have lived close to the sea or water (a lake, a river). I’m thinking about Claude Monet who lived in Giverny close to the river Seine, Pablo Picasso who spent time in Barcelona and Mougins, Henri Matisse in Nice, amongst many others. The inspiration one can get from these places just by walking around everyday and paying attention to nature is just second to none. Below are some impressions of the little place where I have stayed and enjoyed the beginning of spring this year.
Also impressive were the colours in the atmosphere. Skies from deep blue, to light blue and grey to dark grey, and the beautiful sunsets with red and pink and orange colours. The sky was a colour show that one can only be inspired from. So many hues of blue and grey I have seldom experienced (or noticed with the wild life we all have, it’s sometimes hard to stop and have a look at nature).
One day, the fog was so strong, that the sea-line just disappeared in the horizon. It was a merge between sky and sea – same colour, no distinction. Just wonderful.
With that in mind, I have selected some photos and highlighted the colour palette of these moments to show you how impressive it is out there. Look around you and your surroundings. I’m sure there are many magical moments, where you can enjoy such beautiful natural lighting effects.
